Registration for dental care professionals qualified in the UK
The information on this page is only relevant to you if:
- you have never been registered with the GDC before, and
- you have qualified as a dental care professional in the UK.
Am I eligible for registration?
You are eligible for registration if you hold an approved qualification. Please check your qualification is approved by us before applying.
How do I apply?
You can apply for registration online via eGDC by selecting ‘Apply to register’. Please note, you will be asked to complete the route to registration questionnaire.
Following completion of the online application process, you will be issued with a personalised application form to download, print, sign and submit along with your supporting documents. Submitting an online application form could reduce the time it take to process your application.
If you are graduating from your training school or university this year and wish to apply for registration, then we recommend contacting your training institute directly for an application pack.
If you have not received an application pack, please download one:
DCP Application form.pdf (742KB, PDF)
Health self-certification guidance.pdf (364KB, PDF)
What else do I need to send?
As well as your completed application form, we will also need:
- a certified copy of a valid identity document such as passport or driving license. The copy should clearly show your photograph, personal details and the expiry date of the document,
- a certified copy of your qualification, and
- a certified copy of your name change document if your name has changed since you obtained your qualification.
note that if you are sending a certified copy of your driving license, it
must be a colour copy of
both the back and front.
Most training institutes will ask you to return the completed form back to them and they will then send all the forms in together. However, you are also able to send forms and the relevant additional documents to us at:
The Registration Team - New Applications
General Dental Council
43-45 Portman Square
What happens next?
You will only be registered once we have received your completed application form, relevant supporting documents and if applicable, the graduation list from your university or training school. We will contact you if there are any problems with your application form so please ensure you provide correct contact details where you can definitely be reached.
An original registration certificate will be sent to your address upon successful inclusion to the Register. Please keep this safe. Your full name, registered address (ie. the address you put on your application form) and your GDC registration number will appear in the Register.
Once registered, you must have professional indemnity to practise in the UK.
How long will
It will take up to 10 working days to assess your
application from the date we receive it. Please note that delays occur if the form is not completed correctly and/or if there are any concerns raised within your application which will require us to assess it further before we can register you.
Kindly ensure that you have included all requested documents to avoid longer processing times.
