Ian Jackson, Director for Scotland
Ian Jackson took up his post of Director for Scotland on 5 January 2009. Ian manages the GDC’s activities in Scotland, working with the Scottish Parliament and Scottish Government; consumer organisations; patients and members of the public and the dental profession.
Ian's role is to help us better protect UK dental patients by more frequently and effectively engaging with patients and the public in Scotland and Scottish healthcare policy and delivery bodies where there are issues of patient protection and regulation. Ian served as a trustee of the GDC Pension Scheme from 2012 - 2017.
Ian worked for BT from 1982 in a variety of roles and was latterly Partnership Director at BT Scotland. Ian was a Scottish Government ministerial nominee on General Teaching Council Scotland from 2005 until 2012 and was then appointed as a lay member on GTCS becoming independent. He chairs the Finance and General Purposes Committee and sits on the Executive Committee. Ian sits on the Investigating Committee of the Institute of Chartered Accountants Scotland and serves as a lay member on School Inspection Teams for Education Scotland. He was a board member of Perth College UHI from 2012 - 2017 and served on various local authority committees in Perth and Kinross for 20 years.
Ian is a graduate of the University of Edinburgh. He was appointed MBE in January 2005 for services to education in Scotland.
