Our CPD requirements are set out in law. The legislation that sets out what registrants must do is found in the governance pages.
We set out the same requirements in our CPD guidance booklet. This booklet also contains some helpful advice, including information about how to make good CPD decisions through planning and reflection.
All registrants should read and become familiar with our CPD requirements in the context of our Standards.
We recommend that all registrants regularly participate in CPD activities and regularly update their details using eGDC.
Under the ECPD scheme, the CPD requirement for dental care professionals will be changing. Dental nurses and dental technicians will need to complete a minimum of 50 hours verifiable CPD; and dental therapists, dental hygienists, orthodontic therapists, clinical dental technicians will need to complete a minimum of 75 hours verifiable CPD.
From 1 Auguat 2018 all dental care professionals will be moved on to the enhanced CPD scheme. Depending on where you are in your cycle you will have to complete CPD based on the current and new scheme to be compliant at the end of the cycle. A pro-rata approach will be applied and you will be able to find out how many hours you need to complete by using the transition tool. Once your current cycle ends, the CPD requirements for your next cycle will be based on the new scheme.
Further infomaton regarding ECPD requirements for dentists and dental care professionals can be found in ECPD guidance for professionals (154.6 KB, PDF).
