Adrian Thorp

Adrian Thorp

Adrian qualified from Liverpool University, leading to be a part-time Associate Specialist in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and a primary care oral surgeon in North Wales in his own seven-surgery practice. Adrian started the Oral Surgery MCN in North Wales and was one of the individuals who developed the National Accreditation for Tier 2 Oral Surgery in Wales. He was the Deputy Chair of the Strategic Advisory Forum for Oral Surgery in Wales, giving advice to the Chief Dental Officer. He was asked to re-write the Welsh Health Curricular on Oral Surgery provision, which was given Ministerial Approval. He has developed a training scheme to upskill General Dental Practitioners to prevent onward referrals of primary care oral surgery. He is current President-Elect for the British Association of Oral Surgeons. He sat in the Speciality Advisory Committee for Oral Surgery at the Royal College of Surgeons of England and was one of the individuals that developed the new four-year curriculum for Oral Surgery in the UK. He continues to sit on the Strategic Advisory Board for Oral Surgery / Oral Medicine for the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. 

Adrian is one of the representatives that sit on the British National Formulary for NICE to determine the drugs available for the Dental Practitioners Formulary. Adrian is one of the assessors for the General Dental Council for non-CCST applications to the Oral Surgery Specialist List. In addition he is an expert witness for the Dental Defence Union for medico-legal cases in relation to Oral Surgery. Adrian is currently Clinical Director for the Community Dental Services CiC.
