James Neilson
James qualified as a Dental Technician at Manchester Metropolitan University in 1999 and went on to obtain an honours degree in Dental Technology in 2000. He started his career as a dental technician at a large multi-disciplinary laboratory in Dorset. During his time there, he held the roles of departmental manager for prosthetics and later became a company director. In 2007 James graduated from George Brown College (Toronto) in Denturism. In 2008 he was awarded his diploma from the Royal College of Surgeons (England) as a Clinical Dental Technician. After qualification he worked for ten years an associate at BUPA Dental Care in Gillingham (Dorset).
In 2018 he relocated to the Midlands where he works part time as an associate CDT in a dental practice in Walsall. He is also a part time lecturer in Dental Technology at Cardiff Metropolitan University and the Sheffield College and programme director for the masters course at Cardiff. He has also been involved with a working party looking at career pathways for Dental technicians and Clinical dental Technicians for the College of General Dentistry. James has a clear passion for education and is keen to work with education providers to see an increase in education opportunities for CDTs. In his spare time (when he finds some), he is a keen runner and also enjoys sailing, windsurfing and stand-up paddle boarding.
