The Professional Standards Authority (PSA) annual review for 2023/24 found that we met 16 out of 18 Standards of Good Regulation. While we made significant improvements to achieve the standards in registration, we did not meet the standards for EDI and fitness to practise timeliness.

We have today published an in-depth analysis of dentists’ working patterns, building on the data we released in March this year. The analysis benefits from responses from 24,928 dentists – representing 55% of all registered dentists – who completed the working patterns survey, the first of its kind, as part of their annual renewal in late 2023.

We have revised our fitness to practise processes to improve proportionality and timeliness when investigating clinical practice concerns. The move follows the successful pilot of a revised process for handling fitness to practise concerns raised about dental professionals with no previous allegations of impaired fitness to practise in the previous 12 months.

The GDC’s Council has reviewed its plans for the next three years and made the decision to maintain the Annual Retention Fee (ARF) at the same level as in 2024. The ARF for 2025 will therefore be £621 for dentists and £96 for dental care professionals.
